Experienced surfers judge by the rules of the ESA/CNC. We are willing to train in this area. There is usually a head judge that can coach new judges and we usually have judging clinics during the season. A panel of judges is composed of either three or five judges for a heat. When we have new judges, we usually have a panel of five. The lowest and highest scores are eliminated and we judge based on the three remaining scores. This is done so the new judges don’t skew the results as they train. Usually young surfers start judging when they reach the boys division. All surfers are expected to judge at least 3 heats per contest.
If you are mathematically inclined, we can use help calculating the scores. This is done during the contest. If you are mathematically inclined and are knowledgeable in Excel, we are in search of someone to act in the capacity of a backup ‘Points’ tabulator. Points are calculated after the contest is complete and takes about 2 hours per contest.
This involves showing up at the contest site an hour before the contest and helping tote and set up the equipment and tents necessary to run a contest. At the end of the contest, help is needed to breakdown and tote the equipment and tents back to the trailer for storage. The more hands we have, the lighter the load.
Volunteers to run the contest. This involves making announcements, calling contestants to their heats, timing the heats, announcing winners.
We appreciate any photographers whose pictures of surfing events that we can use in newspapers, our website, media and training clinics.
Individuals who can keep our media up to date (Web Page, Facebook, Twitter, etc) and write articles for the local newspapers.
If your talent is marketing or networking, we can use volunteers to recruit sponsors for our organization.
Volunteer for fund raisers in all of the above areas for local fund raisers such as the Buddy Pelletier and Warrior Surf Foundation.
We need event coordinators (arrange a site and set up, buy trophies), cooks/bakers (this event is usually potluck), craft oriented volunteers (help label the trophies).
Need coordinator for housing, assistance with judging and tabulating (must be experienced).
